Just Plai, Inc. (the "Company") is committed to maintaining robust privacy protections for its users. Our Privacy Policy ("Privacy Policy") is designed to help you understand how we collect, use and safeguard the information you provide to us and to assist you in making informed decisions when using our Service.
For purposes of this Agreement, "Site" refers to the Company's website, which can be accessed at justplai.com or through our mobile applications. "Service" refers to the Company's services accessed via the Site, in which users can create and interact with AI-generated children's creative and educational content made from the photos, drawings, and prompts they supply. The terms "we," "us," and "our" refer to the Company. "You" refers to you, as a user of our Site or our Service.
By accessing our Site or our Service, you accept our Privacy Policy and Terms of Use (found here: justplai.com/terms), and you consent to our collection, storage, use and disclosure of your Personal Information as described in this Privacy Policy.
I. Information We Collect
We collect "Non-Personal Information" and "Personal Information." Non-Personal Information includes information that cannot be used to personally identify you, such as aggregated or de-identified usage data and general demographic information we may collect. Personal Information includes your name and email address, which you submit to us through the registration process at the Site, and the information described in sections I.3 through I.5 below. We do not collect or store payment card details: our applications are free and sell nothing.
1. Information Collected via Technology
To activate the Service you do not need to submit any Personal Information other than your email address. To use the Service thereafter, you do not need to submit further Personal Information. However, in an effort to improve the quality and reliability of the Service, we may collect information about how the Service is used and how it performs — for example the type of device or browser used, the time and date of access, which features were used, and diagnostic information about errors and crashes. Any such information is collected by software we write and is sent only to servers we operate. We do not use third-party analytics, advertising, or crash-reporting software in our applications, and we do not share this information with any third-party analytics or advertising service.
On our website we use cookies, or small text files which include an anonymous unique identifier. Cookies are sent to a user's browser from our servers and are stored on the user's computer hard drive. Sending a cookie to a user's browser enables us to collect Non-Personal Information about that user and keep a record of the user's preferences when utilizing our services, both on an individual and aggregate basis. For example, the Company may use cookies to collect the following information:
- pages visited on our website
- session duration and frequency of visits
- device type and operating system
- feature usage patterns
The Company may use both persistent and session cookies; persistent cookies remain on your computer after you close your session and until you delete them, while session cookies expire when you close your browser. For example, we store a persistent cookie to track your session preferences and login status.
2. Information You Provide by Registering for an Account
In addition to the information provided automatically by your browser when you visit the Site, to become a subscriber to the Service you will need to create a personal profile. You can create a profile by registering with the Service and entering your email address, either directly or through a third-party sign-in service such as Apple or Google, and by confirming that you are an adult. By registering, you are authorizing us to collect, store and use that information in accordance with this Privacy Policy.
3. Children's Privacy
Protecting children's privacy is especially important to us. Our Services are designed for use by children under 13 with the involvement of a parent or guardian, and an account must be created and managed by a parent or guardian who is at least 18. We comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act ("COPPA"). We obtain a parent or guardian's consent before we collect any personal information from a child, and we do not condition a child's participation in an activity on disclosing more information than is reasonably necessary to take part in it. The information we collect from a child's use of the Service is limited to what is necessary to provide it. If you believe we have collected personal information from a child without parental consent, please contact us at hello@justplai.com. The content a child creates or supplies is personal information and is covered by sections I.4, I.5 and section II below.
4. Content Your Child Creates or Supplies
The Service turns photos, drawings, and typed or spoken prompts into generated images and text. When a child takes a photo, imports one, draws, or describes what they want, we upload that content to our servers and send it to the third-party AI provider described in section II, which generates the result. We treat this content as your child's personal information. We send the provider only the content and the instructions needed to fulfil that request — never your child's name, birthdate, profile, account identifier, or contact details.
5. Categories of Information We Collect
The categories below are generated from the record of what the Service actually stores, so that this notice and the Service cannot drift apart. For each category we list who it is about, what it contains, and why we hold it.
Account and sign-in
About: you, the parent or guardian.
The grown-up account that owns the family: the email address and name you signed up with, your profile picture if your sign-in provider supplied one, and the records that keep you signed in on your devices.
Why we hold it: To let you sign in, to keep the account secure, and to reach you about your own account — never for advertising.
Child and adult profiles
About: your child and you, the parent or guardian.
One profile per person in the family: the name or nickname it goes by, an age, an optional birthdate, the drawing chosen as its avatar, and the PIN that locks the grown-up profile.
Why we hold it: To keep each person's work separate, to keep content age-appropriate, and to gate the parental controls behind a PIN.
Artwork and creations
About: your child and you, the parent or guardian.
Everything made in the app: pixel-art canvases and every stroke that built them, generated images, photos uploaded to be turned into pixel art, and the worlds a child writes.
Why we hold it: To store what the child made, to let them reopen and undo it, and to replay it as a time-lapse.
Conversations with the AI
About: your child and you, the parent or guardian.
What is said to the assistant and what it says back — the typed or spoken request, the reply, and the intermediate reasoning the assistant produced while answering — plus a count of how many turns a profile has used.
Why we hold it: To answer the child, to keep a conversation going across turns, to review safety incidents, and to apply the daily limit on AI turns.
Reading and learning
About: your child and you, the parent or guardian.
The topics a child asked about, the pages written for them, and a running list of the concepts they have already met.
Why we hold it: To build the next page on what the child has already read, and to avoid repeating a concept they have seen.
Safety reports
About: your child and you, the parent or guardian.
When something is reported as inappropriate, we keep what was reported, why, and which conversation or canvas it came from.
Why we hold it: To review the report, to act on it, and to improve the filters that should have caught it.
Consent and parental-rights records
About: you, the parent or guardian.
The record of a parent consenting to a child using the app, of a request to receive a copy of the family's data, of an account deletion, and of the automated check that finds accounts left inactive past their retention window and offers their parent a deletion.
Why we hold it: To prove consent was given, to fulfil and evidence a data request or deletion, and to enforce retention — records the law requires us to keep.
II. How We Use and Share Information
Personal Information
Except as otherwise stated in this Privacy Policy, we do not sell, trade, rent or otherwise share for marketing purposes your Personal Information with third parties without your consent. We do share Personal Information with vendors who are performing services for the Company, such as our cloud hosting and storage providers, the servers for our email communications who are provided access to a user's email address for purposes of sending emails from us, and the AI provider described below. Those vendors use your Personal Information only at our direction and in accordance with this Privacy Policy.
In general, the Personal Information you provide to us is used to help us communicate with you. For example, we use Personal Information to contact users in response to questions, solicit feedback from users, provide technical support, and inform users about promotional offers.
We may share Personal Information with outside parties if we have a good-faith belief that access, use, preservation or disclosure of the information is reasonably necessary to meet any applicable legal process or enforceable governmental request; to enforce applicable Terms of Service, including investigation of potential violations; address fraud, security or technical concerns; or to protect against harm to the rights, property, or safety of our users or the public as required or permitted by law.
Third-Party AI Providers
Generating images and the words that go with them requires AI models we do not run ourselves. We use one third-party AI provider — currently OpenAI — for this purpose. For each request it receives the content and instructions involved and returns a generated image or text. It acts as a service provider: it receives the content in order to fulfil that request, and we do not authorize it to use the content to train its models, to advertise to your child, to build a profile of your child, or for any purpose of its own. We send every request with the provider's own retention switched off, so it is not kept in the provider's dashboard or API once it has been answered; short-lived copies the provider holds for security and abuse monitoring are governed by our agreement with it.
We do not sell your child's content, and we do not share it with anyone other than this provider and the parent or guardian who owns the account. If we add or change providers, we will update this section.
Retention and Deletion
We keep the information described in section I.5 for as long as the account is active, so your child can return to their work and you can review it. If an account has not been used for two years, we may email the parent or guardian to offer deletion of the account and everything in it, and we delete it when they confirm.
You can delete individual creations in the app, and you can delete the whole account yourself from the account settings, or ask us to delete your child's content or the account at any time by emailing hello@justplai.com. Deleted content is removed from our active storage immediately and ages out of our backups within 30 days. Records we are required to keep to show that consent was given, or that a deletion or a data request was carried out, are kept after the account is deleted. Any copy an AI provider holds while processing a request is governed by that provider's own retention policy.
Analytics and Diagnostics
Our applications contain no third-party analytics, advertising, or crash-reporting software. They carry no advertising identifier (IDFA), do no cross-app tracking, and do not collect precise location. Any usage, performance, or crash information we collect is first-party: it is gathered by software we write, sent only to servers we operate, and used to run and improve the Service. We do not sell it, we do not use it for advertising, and we do not share it with any third-party analytics or advertising service.
Our website, justplai.com, uses a third-party service to count page visits. That measurement is of the website pages only — it is not present in our applications, it does not run on the creative tools you can use in a browser, it records the page visited and nothing about what you make there, and it is never used for advertising.
Non-Personal Information
In general, we use Non-Personal Information to help us improve the Service and customize the user experience. We also aggregate Non-Personal Information in order to track trends and analyze use patterns on the Site. We do not sell Non-Personal Information, and we do not disclose it for advertising purposes. We do not serve advertisements in our applications.
In the event we undergo a business transaction such as a merger, acquisition by another company, or sale of all or a portion of our assets, your Personal Information may be among the assets transferred. You acknowledge and consent that such transfers may occur and are permitted by this Privacy Policy, and that any acquirer of our assets may continue to process your Personal Information as set forth in this Privacy Policy. If our information practices change at any time in the future, we will post the policy changes to the Site so that you may opt out of the new information practices. We suggest that you check the Site periodically if you are concerned about how your information is used.
III. How We Protect Information
We implement security measures designed to protect your information from unauthorized access. Your account is protected by your account credentials and we urge you to take steps to keep your personal information safe by not disclosing them and by logging out of your account after each use. We further protect your information from potential security breaches by implementing certain technological security measures including encryption, firewalls and secure socket layer technology. However, these measures do not guarantee that your information will not be accessed, disclosed, altered or destroyed by breach of such firewalls and secure server software. By using our Service, you acknowledge that you understand and agree to assume these risks.
IV. Your Rights Regarding the Use of Your Personal Information
You have the right at any time to prevent us from contacting you for marketing purposes. When we send a promotional communication to a user, the user can opt out of further promotional communications by following the unsubscribe instructions provided in each promotional e-mail, or by writing to us at hello@justplai.com. Please note that notwithstanding the promotional preferences you indicate, we may continue to send you administrative emails including, for example, periodic updates to our Privacy Policy.
V. Parental Rights
Parents and guardians have the right to review the personal information we have collected from their child, to refuse to permit its further collection or use, and to direct us to delete it. You can exercise each of these rights yourself, from the account settings in the app:
Review — request a copy. Ask for a copy of your family's information from the account settings. We email the address on the account a link to confirm the request; confirming is how we verify that the request came from you. Once you confirm, we assemble a copy of the information described in section I.5 and email you a download link. This usually takes a few minutes, and the link expires after seven days. You can also make this request by emailing hello@justplai.com.
Refuse further collection. You can close a child's profile from the account settings. Everything they have made is kept for you, and we stop collecting anything further from that profile. A closed profile cannot be reopened from within the app; to reopen one, email hello@justplai.com and we will respond promptly.
Delete. You can delete a child's profile, or the entire account and everything in it, from the account settings. You can also ask us to delete either by emailing hello@justplai.com.
We will not require you to create an account or provide more information than we need in order to exercise any of these rights. If we ever need to verify a request, we will do so using the email address already on the account.
VI. Links to Other Websites
As part of the Service, we may provide links to or compatibility with other websites or applications. However, we are not responsible for the privacy practices employed by those websites or the information or content they contain. This Privacy Policy applies solely to information collected by us through the Site and the Service. Therefore, this Privacy Policy does not apply to your use of a third party website accessed by selecting a link on our Site or via our Service. To the extent that you access or use the Service through or on another website or application, then the privacy policy of that other website or application will apply to your access or use of that site or application. We encourage our users to read the privacy statements of other websites before proceeding to use them.
VII. Changes to Our Privacy Policy
The Company reserves the right to change this policy and our Terms of Service at any time. We will notify you of significant changes to our Privacy Policy by sending a notice to the primary email address specified in your account or by placing a prominent notice on our site. Significant changes will go into effect 30 days following such notification. Non-material changes or clarifications will take effect immediately. Where a change materially affects how we collect, use or disclose a child's personal information, we will obtain the parent or guardian's consent again before the change applies to that child's information. You should periodically check the Site and this privacy page for updates.
